Blind Screen Product Description

Blind Screens are a revolutionary "all-in-one" solution designed specifically for large glass spans, such as bifold doors and patio doors. Unlike traditional blinds that hang from a top rail, these are built into a slimline four-sided perimeter frame. They typically feature a dual-track system: one side houses a pleated "honeycomb" thermal blackout fabric, and the other houses a fine "insect mesh." You can slide either screen independently across the window—pull the mesh for fresh air without bugs, or pull the honeycomb for total darkness and temperature control.

Frame:

  • Ultra-slim (often as thin as 22mm–40mm) powder-coated Aluminum; available in standard colors like White, Anthracite, and Black to match modern door frames.

Fabric Options:

  • Light Seal (Blackout): A honeycomb/cellular fabric with an internal aluminum foil membrane for 100% light blockage.
  • Scene Set (Dim-out): A single-cell honeycomb fabric that filters light while providing privacy.
  • Breeze In (Mesh): A durable, pleated polyester mesh that blocks 90%+ of insects (including tiny midges) and filters pollen.

Operation:

  • Side-to-side manual gliding (often called a "lateral" or "monorail" system) or motorized.

Thermal Efficiency

The honeycomb structure creates an air-trap barrier, scientifically proven to reduce heat loss by up to 40-50% in winter.

Size Capability:

  • Can be manufactured for massive spans, often up to 6 meters wide and 3 meters high.
Because these screens use pleated fabrics and fine mesh, they require specific maintenance to keep the sliding mechanism smooth:
  • Weekly Maintenance: Use a feather duster or a soft-bristled brush to gently sweep away dust from the mesh.[6] For the honeycomb fabric, use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment on its lowest setting.
  • Track Care: This is the most important step. Keep the bottom track free of grit, pet hair, and debris. Use a small brush or vacuum to clear the track once a month to ensure the screen glides without "jumping."
  • Spot Cleaning: If the honeycomb fabric gets marked, use a damp (not soaking) microfiber cloth with mild soapy water. Blot the stain—never rub, as rubbing can "fuzz" the polyester fibers.
  • Washing the Mesh: The insect mesh is often water-resistant. You can wipe it down with a damp cloth or even use a very mild detergent spray and a soft brush to remove stuck insects or pollen.
  • Drying: Always leave the screens fully extended (closed) to air-dry if they become damp; rolling them up while wet can lead to mildew or odors.
Blind Screen
  • Bifold and Sliding Doors: This is the "gold standard" use. Since the screens are frame-fitted, you can have your doors wide open in the summer with the mesh screen pulled across, allowing for a 100% insect-free breeze.
  • Bedrooms (Shift Workers & Nurseries): The "Light Seal" fabric provides a true 100% blackout because the fabric sits inside a track, eliminating the "light halo" effect common with standard rollers.
  • Energy-Conscious Homes: Ideal for north-facing rooms that get very cold or south-facing rooms that overheat. The thermal honeycomb acts as an extra layer of "glazing."
  • Allergy Sufferers: The "Breeze In" mesh acts as a filter for outdoor pollen and dust, allowing you to ventilate your home during hay fever season without the symptoms.
  • Home Cinemas: Because they can cover vast spans with zero light leakage, they are perfect for converting a bright living room into a pitch-black movie environment.

Care and Cleaning Procedures

Natural wood requires specific care to maintain its luster and structural integrity over time.
  • Routine Dusting: Use a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a specialized blind duster. Close the slats fully to wipe one side, then rotate them to clean the reverse.
  • Avoid Excess Water: Never saturate wooden blinds. If a damp cloth is needed for sticky marks, ensure it is well-wrung and follow up immediately with a dry cloth to prevent moisture absorption.
  • Furniture Polish: Occasionally, a small amount of non-silicone wood polish can be applied to a cloth to restore the natural shine of stained wood finishes.
  • Vacuuming: Use the soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner on a low-suction setting to remove dust from the cords and headrail.
  • UV Protection: Finished with a specialized UV-resistant coating to prevent fading or cracking from sun exposure.

The Ultimate Blind Screen Solution for Bifold and Patio Doors

Modern homes often feature beautiful, expansive bifold or patio doors. While these doors look stunning, they are notoriously difficult to dress. Traditional curtains are bulky, and standard blinds often leave unsightly light gaps or interfere with the door's operation.
Our blind screen system is designed specifically to solve these problems. These integrated fly screens for large doors feature an ultra-slimline frame that sits discreetly against your existing uPVC or aluminum frames. Whether your doors fold, slide, or swing, our screens provide a seamless finish that moves with your lifestyle.

The "No-Gap" Advantage for Total Darkness

The primary reason customers choose a blind screen blackout from Cross Blinds & Shutters is the "no-gap" technology. Unlike a standard roller blind that sits away from the window, the Blind Screen glides within a dedicated side track. This seals the edges, preventing the "halo effect" of light that often wakes you up in the morning. This makes it the perfect blackout blind screen for bedrooms, nurseries, and cinema rooms.

Fly Screen Blinds: Keep Pests Out and Fresh Air In

One of the most unique features of this system is the dual-functionality. One side of the screen houses our fly screen blinds. These are essential for midge-proof blinds for Scottish summers.
The fine, durable mesh allows you to leave your bifold doors wide open, enjoying full ventilation and a fresh breeze without worrying about wasps, flies, or midges entering your kitchen or living space. It is the most stylish and practical way to bring the outdoors in while keeping nature's pests out.

Thermal Efficiency: Honeycomb Technology for Scottish Weather

Our slimline blackout screens for modern homes do more than just block light. The blackout side of the screen utilizes a honeycomb (cellular) fabric. This structure traps air, creating an insulating barrier at your window.
  • At Cross Blinds & Shutters we offer both premium real timber and high-grade faux wood options:
  • In Summer: It reflects solar heat, keeping your living space comfortably cool even on the brightest days.
