Style and Light Control for Every Window

Vertical blinds work well for windows of almost any size, but they are particularly suited for large windows or sliding doors. Their vertical design creates an illusion of height in rooms with low ceilings.

You can rotate them to open partially or fully, and you can also slide them along the track to one side to fully uncover the window or door. You can also adjust them to completely block out the sun or set them at an angle to let in just the right amount of light. They offer great control over privacy and the amount of light entering a room.

Versatile Vertical Blinds for Modern Scottish Homes

Vertical blinds remain one of the most practical solutions for the modern home. Unlike heavy drapes that can gather dust or roller blinds that may feel restrictive, vertical blinds offer unparalleled control over your environment.
With a simple rotation of the wand or chain, you can filter light to protect your furniture from glare while still enjoying the view. When fully drawn, they stack neatly to the side, ensuring your bifold or sliding doors remain completely clear. At Cross Blinds & Shutters, we offer a wide range of fabrics, including moisture-resistant materials for kitchens and blackout options for bedrooms.

Precision Control: Managing Light and Privacy

The beauty of a vertical blind lies in its adjustability. Whether you want to deflect harsh afternoon sun or tilt the louvres to block the view of passersby while maintaining a flow of natural light, our systems are engineered for smooth, long-term operation. This makes them the ideal choice for large window blinds where light management is a daily priority.
  • Full Height Shutters: Perfect for a clean, minimalist look that covers the entire window.
  • Cafe Style Shutters: These cover only the bottom half of the window, allowing natural light to flood in from the top while maintaining total privacy from the street—ideal for Glasgow tenements.
  • Tier-on-Tier Shutters: Offering the best of both worlds, these allow you to open the top and bottom sections independently.

Moisture-Resistant Blinds for Kitchens and Bathrooms

Are you looking for blinds that can handle the humidity of a busy Scottish kitchen or a steamy bathroom? We offer a selection of specialist, moisture-resistant fabrics. These durable vertical blinds are easy to wipe clean, resistant to warping, and designed to maintain their appearance despite temperature fluctuations and moisture exposure.

Thermal Efficiency: Keep the Chill Out

Vertical blinds aren't just for light control; they add an extra layer of insulation to your home. By closing your blinds during the evening in winter, you create a thermal barrier over your glass, helping to keep the heat inside your living area. Our high-quality louvres help manage your home’s energy efficiency throughout the seasons.

FAQ: Vertical Blinds

Removing vertical blinds is a straightforward process. First, pull the blinds all the way to one side and rotate the louvres (vanes) so they are flat and facing the same direction. Carefully unclip each individual vane from the carrier. Once all vanes are removed, you can usually release the headrail from its mounting brackets by pushing up on the release tab or using a screwdriver to loosen the mounting screws.

Most modern vertical blinds use a simple "hook and slot" system. To unclip a vane, simply tilt the bottom of the vane upward at a 45-degree angle. This movement will loosen the grip of the hanger, allowing you to slide the vane slightly to the side or pull it gently downward to release the hook. If the hanger is stiff, do not force it; ensure the vane is rotated fully flat before attempting to unclip.

It depends on the material. Fabric vertical blinds are generally not machine-washable, as they can lose their shape or protective coating. PVC and aluminum vanes, however, are very easy to clean. We always recommend checking the specific care instructions provided at the time of installation. If you are unsure, avoid full immersion in water, as this can damage the internal mechanisms of the carriers.

You can keep your blinds looking new without taking them down by using a vacuum cleaner with a soft upholstery brush attachment. Run the vacuum gently down each vane to remove dust. For spot cleaning, use a soft, damp microfiber cloth with a tiny amount of mild, soapy water. Always wipe from top to bottom and ensure the vane is completely dry before rotating it to the other side to prevent water spots.

Absolutely. We offer a variety of blackout fabrics for our vertical range, which are perfect for bedrooms or home cinemas where total light control is required.

Yes, vertical blinds are one of the most versatile solutions for challenging window shapes. Because they are installed on a custom-tracked rail system, we can configure them to fit wide spans, angled bay windows, and even sloped ceiling windows. Our lead surveyor, Ross, will assess your specific window architecture during your free home survey to ensure the rail is engineered for a smooth, snag-free operation across the entire width of your window.

Child safety is our top priority. All our vertical blinds are fitted with industry-standard safety devices to ensure they are safe for homes with children and pets. This includes tensioning devices for wand or chain controls and, where appropriate, we can provide cordless wand-operated systems that completely eliminate the risk of loose cords. We ensure every installation fully complies with current UK safety regulations before we leave your home.
